A City of Villages : Celebrate!
Tori
Saturday November 1st!
Hello all,
First of all, I want to extend a whole-hearted "Thank you!" to the overwhelming support and enthusiasm we have seen surrounding the new Farmers' Market! As many of you are aware, starting up a new farmers' market is a slow process but we continue to grow and develop thanks to your help.
There is a definite buzz about the farmers' market, and we are trying to keep the buzz going strong. If you know of any upcoming community events or neighborhood locations that might be a good place to do outreach, please let us know!
This week, we will be welcoming TWO new vendors to the Oakland Community Farmers Market!
Vital Vittles
The highly anticipated arrival of Vital Vittles bakery is finally here! Vital Vittles is a 100% organic bakery and mill based out of Berkeley with delicious whole grain breads, muffins, cakes, and cookies baked fresh for each market! Check out their website: www.vitalvittles.com to see a list of their products. Also, if you haven't completed our community survey to help decide which products to have at the market and are interested in doing so, please let me know (tori@foodcommunityculture.org)
EGB Farms
EGB Farms of Ripon, CA will be joining us this week! EGB Farms specializes in flavored nuts--walnuts, almonds as well as apples, pomegranates, and dried fruit. These delicious treats are perfect for fall!
Also, keep an eye out in the upcoming weeks for local soap vendor, Jay Ento of Naturally Delicious Skin (http://naturallydeliciousskin.com); Laurel district flower vendor and business owner David Macon of Sudear Flowers and local resident Victoria Bianchi selling some delicious home made biscotti!
This week we will also be welcoming back the rockin' tunes of Iya Khan and featuring some delicious new recipes at our youth led food booth, Purple Lawn Cafe. This is a community event not to be missed! Pick up some produce, have some lunch made by hard-working East Oakland youth of the Purple Lawn Cafe, and hear some great music courtesy of Mr. Iya Khan. Come check out the Laurel district Oakland Community Farmers' Market this Saturday!
----------------------------------------
Saturday November 1st, 2008 is a big day for us here at Oakland Food Connection. We are celebrating our one year anniversary of being in the Laurel district!
We will be hosting our annual fundraiser, "Will Dance for Food Justice" THIS Saturday, November 1st from 8pm-2am (and beyond!) right here at our office: 4173 Macarthur Blvd.
Our fundraiser is a celebration both our one year anniversary of being in the Laurel district and the successes we've seen for our organization and it's mission in the past year.
We will be enjoying some delicious food and drinks (courtesy of Chef Gramcrackah of the Purple Lawn Cafe and Jason de Guzman of the Millenium Cafe) and dancing the night away with sounds from DJ Domingo Yu and DJ Be Brown! We will also be holding a halloween-inspired costume contest, with special prizes for the best costume!
Help support a vision for East Oakland's future generations to understand and be able to access affordable, fresh, locally-grown, delicious foods. Come out and support East Oakland's ONLY food justice organization! We hope to see you there!
If you have any further questions or would like any more information about any of our upcoming events feel free to email me at tori@foodcommunityculture.org or by phone (510) 482-1898.
Best,
